Home on Maui

I have spent 9 weeks on Maui and in her beautiful waters this past year. It is safe to say that I am pretty spoiled, and that the beaches of the Atlantic coast don’t provide the same sense of awe they once would have. Due to a terribly unfortunate events the house that I was supposed to be working on while on Maui, wasn’t able to close until the last ten days on the Island. With all the free time I took up diving, and fell in love with a hobby that far to few get to enjoy. In PA, our waters are not ideal for SCUBA so I am constantly finding myself daydreaming of destinations across the world where the water is clear, and a wet suit isn’t necessary.

This trip was one of the best ways to spend a winter break between semesters. I learned more about my family living with my aunt, and uncle both from my fathers side. My uncle and I went to Dog and Duck pub in Kihei a couple times a week. During the days I would roam the island on a scooter that was way to small for someone my size, and in the evenings we would play board games with Rick and Allen who without question allowed us to stay in their home while we waited on the house closing. Uncle Joe and I shared a mattress that had been tossed quickly into a guest room that was also a storage room at the time while my aunt slept on the couch in the living room.

I will make it back to Maui again some day and explore the other islands but until then I have my pictures, memories, and the internet to keep me in the Hawaiian spirit while I am away from a place that I will always consider a home.
